Done deal: Cubs land Theo Epstein from Red Sox
There was no announcement on a resolution in the compensation package the Cubs will have to send to the Red Sox for Epstein.
A major league source told the Tribune, "This had to be done. Theo wasn't going back to Boston. At some point you have to set a deadline."
Compensation is expected to be settled sometime in the next 10 days.
"Out of respect for the World Series, both clubs have agreed to forego further comment," the news release said. Epstein, who will received a reported $18.5 million over five years, are to announce at a news conference Tuesday at Wrigley Field, the next off day in the World Series, while the Red Sox Boston are to do likewise in naming Ben Cherington as Epstein's successor.
After the World Series, the Cubs will bring in Padres' GM Jed Hoyer,cheap jerseys from china who also will receive a five-year deal, as their next GM and his assistant Jason McLeod.
The Padres have reportedly agreed to a list of Cubs minor league players to choose from as compensation for Hoyer and McLeod.
